How to Build Team Spirit Without Breaking the Bank

There’s no doubt boosting morale around the office is important. Happy people are more productive, absent less and nicer to be around. But it’s also something that’s easy to put in the too hard basket, especially when you have a limited budget and precious little time to think about it.

There’s nothing more effective at boosting the spirit than gratitude. It works both ways too – we feel good when we give it and receive it! However, too often we get caught up in the day to day and fail to reflect on the things we are grateful for.

Whether you schedule a Monday morning tea with coffee and snacks to help you ease into the week, a Wednesday lunchtime special where you shout the team lunch, or the traditional beer and soft drinks on Friday afternoon to kick off the weekend, make it regular and on work time. It doesn’t need to be elaborate, but the gesture goes a long way to show your appreciation for their hard work.


Good Office Vibes

Creating a work environment that is pleasant will enhance the mood, productivity and morale of your team. There are many simple ways you can add good vibes to your office space – from indoor greenery, to music, or artwork on the walls. Making the effort to create a nice place for everyone to be will have a long-term positive impact, so if you’re not sure where to start, ask for suggestions from your team – they’re sure to have some great ideas.


Group Activities

Organising a group activity to do together is a great way to break the routine of work and have some fun. There are lots of possibilities – from meditation or exercise, to a book club or cooking class. Find something that can be done in the office during work time to make it easy and enjoyable for all.
